Japanese Birth Machines

From CNN:

"TOKYO, Japan (Reuters) -- Japan's top government spokesman said on Monday the health minister should stay in his post despite a furore over his reference to women as "birth giving machines," but pressure to resign looked unlikely to fade."

- The Minister later confided that he had first heard the term on a visit to the United States whereupon he met with Senator Joseph Biden's mother for tea. :)

Having lived and worked in Asia for a Japanese firm for many... uh, WAY TOO MANY years, I find myself SHOCKED, OUTRAGED, INCREDULOUS over the minister's "post-tea-with-Joe-Biden's-mom" comment.

Um... okay, not really.

What's funny though, is that young adult Japanese women began a trend in the late 80's that continues today: Less and less of them are marrying, specifically because Japanese men tend to be such clueless dumbasses, such as the minister of cluelessness verified through his dumbass, clueless comment.

Pretty hard to use women as baby-making machines when they refuse to marry you, and when they refuse to even "do" you.

Well, they can always hit up a 13 year old at a geisha bar.

(sigh).

Japan is a amazing in its capacity to encapsulate something as serene and thoughtful as Zen Buddhism and....you know....all the other less laudable traits.

It is a strange place, populated with strange people who do strange things.

I despised Japan when I worked for the Japanese, but now that I don't, I've found Tokyo to be one of my favorite places in the world. Awesome food, awesome beer, and constant entertainment as you watch the strange people do strange things - constantly.

I'll be going back for a vacation in a few weeks. I'm drooling just thinking about all the great food I'm going to eat.
